Living Room Makeover (Part 1)

When we first bought the house, we didn’t really go all out on the design and decor of the place. As long as there was a proper kitchen for me to cook and bake in, a room to sleep in, a place to sit and dine with friends and family, I am a happy camper. One feature we had was our customized TV console area where the TV could rotate in between the living room and the dining room. At first it was ok coz we somehow “disciplined” ourselves to eat at the dining table but as time goes by, we plunked our butts @ the living room sofa and at our coffee table area for dinner. Throughout the years we played hosts to a few occasional gatherings with family and friends and with that TV console, it would separate guests between the 2 areas. So this year the husband decided to do away with it. He had a friend who was doing small renovations and we finally removed that TV console.

We are happy now that the hall looks longer and spacious. The cats can run around without banging into the TV console…. yes they do that at times.

So with the extra moolah I had from my PB, we decided to get a new TV console and sofa set. Eversince the read on Dyan’s post on her loots from Taobao, I have been buying stuffs there for the home and myself quite errrr… frequently. It’s addictive I tell you and sometimes you buy the darnest things. We’ll save the Taobao loots for another post.

I decided to be more adventurous and try out getting a sofa set. These were the two that we decided upon.

After conversion, the total cost for a 3-seater sofa and a single seater was abt SGD$600+. In Singapore, just the 3-seater sofa like that would have cost $1.2k at the most. So we are thinking it’d be a good buy right! Now the shipping…. I read in forums that the shipping cost would be the killer, even if you use the different agents like 65daigou.com, buy4u.peeka.sg,etc. I have been using 65Daigou.com for a while now and it has been reliable. So you’ll never know it might be all worthwile since cost is already cheap. One thing good about using 65daigou.com is that they will inform you shipping cost first on big items and if you’d like to proceed or not. They informed me that the total weight for both these sofas add up to 150kg and using their shipping calculator, the shipping alone cost abt $1.2k… hu hu hu… about the same costs if you buy in the shops. Even if it came, there might be a possibility that there could be defects. But I really really like the sofa! šŸ™ In the end, we decided to forgo it!

It was difficult to come to a decision of which sofa should we get. So after this we have to con to an agreement again of which stuffs to get. So far we have set our eyes to one from Castlery but we shall see.

So far the plan is –

  • To paint theĀ living room;
  • To get a new sofa, TV console and coffee table;
  • To either re-use the existing curtains or errr… sew a new one.

All within the span of before raya! Hhahahhaha (hoping that I’ll get it done soon)

Wish me luck!
