Here We Go, Start of IVF

But before I start, a friend asked me if I can keep anything a secret coz I’m always posting up stuffs about my journey, my life to the world. I think he caught me at a very bad timing coz I was alone @ KKH waiting for a scan and knowing that I had to take a jab on my own. It’s very unlike me to just snap at someone unless provoked, but I just snapped! Told him that different ppl have different ways of dealing with issues and that is my way and I’m ok with sharing. But I realized it was the hormones talking so I apologized to him but when he messaged me that day, I didn’t feel like responding in fear that I’ll lash out more, seeing that is he also one of my closest friends. But all is good now. Just shows that I am normal and do have these PMSes once in a while. :p

11 – 14 April 2014
So the cycle came on 11th and as instructed, called up the KKH IVF hotline and they scheduled my 1st scan on Monday, 14.4.14. Since it was a last min thingy and the husb had to cover someone who had chicken pox, I went alone that morning. They asked me to come btwn 8am – 10am. Upon reaching KKH at abt 8.10am, I thought I was early and I could be in time to go back to work or slightly late but boy was I wrong, I had 16 ppl ahead of me. It wasn’t a good feeling to be there alone and waiting anxiously for your turn and knowing that you have to do a scan plus a self injection. So came my turn, did the scan, overheard the nurse saying that I had many small follicles and that my lining was only 3mm. Once done, again waited for my turn at the registration counter. I filled up the necessary Medisave forms and was told to collect the medications at the pharmacy and come back again to the centre so that a nurse could show me the jabs procedures and instructions.

When I came back, it was almost 11-ish so I decided to take leave for that day. I am thankful that my supervisor is understanding enough about this whole procedure. So they gave me to sets on injections to take back. The meds were Gonal-F (2 pens), Ganirelix aka Orgalutran (4 syringes), some folic acid and antibiotics for the husband. I did not have the courage to do it on my own and had the nurse to do the 1st Gonal-F jab on me.

Thank god that I took the day off. By the time I had my lunch at home, somehow I felt so lethargic and dozed off. Woke up at abt 3pm to a massive headache, was in cold sweats and I had the worst cramps and curled up like a prawn. I remembered that Dyan’s procedure was not far off from mine so I WhatsApp her and I just wanted to know if what I was going through was normal. She had about the same symptoms as well. I’m just glad there is someone to talk to and understands the whole procedure & ordeal! Thank you Dyan!

The husb had to be the one to do the injections for me since he is familiar giving insulin jabs to his late-mom. Here’s what Gonal-F pen looks like. Got this image from another lady going through IVF as well.

2nd day onwards was much better. My dosage was 187.5. Prolly because I informed Dr. Sadhana that for my dosage on Purgeon for pre-IUI, the follicles were not even growing much – hence the high dosage as compared to Dyan’s of 150.

On the 4th day onwards, I had to take double injections, one of the Gonal F and the other was the Orgalutran. The latter had a stinging sensation when the meds was injected in. >____<

This injection is supposedly helping to stop the ovulating from coming too soon when undergoing the IVF treatment.

Now I have 2 more sets of injections to go before the scan on Monday. The 2 sides of the ovaries does feel sore but it’s an on and off feeling. So just need to think positive and look forward to Monday.

  1. No problem! It was so nice to have someone in the same cycle as me too!
I had one stinging injection too. The Pergoveris. Cried the 1st time i injected on my own. Hahaha
Tapi the one to stop ovulation, i use Cetrotide, tak stinging sgt.

For your lining kan babe, some of the girls in the forum recommended drinking Red bean soup!
You can just beli at the dessert stall at Kopitiam etc Cos kalau nak boil sendiri memang lengit ah. hahaha
Maybe hari2 during lunch just makan. I did that for 2 days. My lining from 9mm went up to 14mm.
    So no harm trying!

Cos one of my gf, tak dapat continue with her Egg Transfer cos lining dia tak cukup 8mm and had to FET cycle next pulak.

    1. Thanks for the info on the red bean soup. I’m doing a last min thingy on that. I hope that by besok, it’s just gonna be thick enough to follow through the transfer. bismillah many many! So when is your tentative transfer?

      1. My transfer will be next week i think. Cos the retrieval will be done think either this wednesday or thursday and then it’ll depend on whether they wanna do a 3-day or 5 day transfer.

  2. *hugs* You are really a strong person. I don’t think I am emotionally ready to go thru all these 🙁 All the best, in shaa Allah, soon babe… my duas for you.
