Puregon (Day 4)

Finally my cycle came a few days back. Started out as spots on the 1st day but made an appointment anyways. I was so-called mentally prepared for for the jabs to start today but Dr. J asked to start it the next morning same timing. It’s called Puregon.

Puregon  is used in the treatment of infertility or as part of a programme of treatment in assisted reproduction. Puregon injections contain the active ingredient follitropin beta, which is synthetic version of a natural sex hormone called follicle stimulating hormone (FSH) which is found in the body. Assisted reproduction increases the chances of having a multiple pregnancy in women.

Puregon

I was literally squirming when the nurse was explaining to me how it was done. Here’s a page explaining the steps to use Puregon. It’s in Spanish but if you have a Google translator, it helps. But then again pictures alone are self explanatory. So the next day, woke up at abt 6am for the shot, almost the time that the husband goes to work (just in case I chicken out to do myself)… True enuff, the thought of pinching my stomach area and pressing the jab down… It’s ok, kirim salam! So the husband has been doing it every morning and each time without fail, I’ll close my eyes with my hands and brace myself for the thin, tiny, puny needle to be inserted and taken out after 5 secs. Hahahah yes yes I’m a wimp when it comes to needles and spiders!

The cramps that I had on the 2nd and 3rd day were horrendous! I didn’t want to do anything but just curl up like a prawn and shun just stay under the duvet all day!

I’m being put on the 50 units dosage and on the 6th day (Thursday), Dr. J will scan to see how my follicles are reacting to the dosage and if there is a need to increase the dosage. We are looking at a timeline of 2 weeks. If everything is ok with me (yes it’s just me)… he’ll then proceed with the IUI.

Wish me luck!
