Now Then I Know…

I blogged a few days back about Femara (Letrozole), here. Since taking this, I have been having some bad cramps after the cycle. It occurs above the cervix area as well as at both sides of the ovaries. It got quite bad that I can’t stand up too long and I had to curl myself up just to feel better. I even placed hot ointment to try to make the pain go away. In my mind, I was thinking that die to my history, I may hv another round of cycle coming soon.

We had an appointment with Dr. S over the weekend and mentioned to her what happened. She explained that based on the days that I had these cramps, it could be a sign that I am ovulating! Hurray! I am ovulating! The eggs are finally out! So she advised further to make full use of the timing. And if this did not happen, I would not have known that ovulation usually occurs between Day 11 – 21 from their last menstutal period (LMP) – taken from here. How was I suppose to know coz it’s always been 3 – 9 mths of irregular cycles! So which means I have till this Thursday try, try and try! Too much info, I know, but heck, what do I care! It’s a first after good knows when I have been trying.

So now Dr. S says that if till end of the month I’m not pregnant, she will want me to try another round of Letrozole and track the dates., cycle, etc. She then moved on about IVF and explained to me the procedures and risk involved. One of which that made me really listen was Ovarian Hyperstimulation Syndrome (OHSS). From this site, it states

“The ovarian hyperstimulation syndrome (OHSS) is a rare complication of IVF. It occurs in women who are very sensitive to the fertility drugs taken to increase egg production. Too many eggs develop in the ovaries, which become very large and painful.

OHSS is more common in women under 30 and in women who have polycystic ovary syndrome. OHSS generally develops in the week after egg collection.

The symptoms of OHSS are pain and bloating low down in your abdomen, and nausea or vomiting. Severe cases can be dangerous. Contact your clinic if you have any of these symptoms.”

So for those with PCOS, it could be life-threatening if goes unnoticed (as mentioned here, on KKH as well)! So tawakal and bismillah many many! Let’s just hope that while on the pills, it’ll be au naturale! *one can only hope right*

  2. I just talked to Prof PC Wong last tuesday about the OHSS as well. I was concerned cos my AMH Level is high and OHSS is something i would really wanna avoid but he did mention he will reduce the drug protocol for me to avoid OHSS. So im keeping my fingers crossed!

    1. Hopefully with their professional experience, nothing major happens to either 1 of us. But yeah, its something to look out and be concerned about…. 🙁
